Sabine Spare (b. 1991, Montreal) is a Toronto based artist whose work uses textile and craft techniques to express themes of perceptual differences. She holds a Bachelor of Design from OCAD University in Material Art and Design.

Spare’s work explores issues relating to her neurodivergent experience including forging connections, blurred realities and pattern recognition. Oscillating between playful and subtly unsettling, her work draws from her imagined alternate worlds.

These themes come together to fuel explorations within a multimedia practice that includes painting, marbling, dyeing, embroidery, sculpting and garment construction. Spare’s studio practice involves meticulous attention to craftsmanship, in depth material research and a focus on sustainable practices through the use of found materials.

She seeks to reinterpret figurative art and fashion, taking elements from both realms to create work that is both wearable and conceptual. Spare’s distinct visual vernacular has been featured in MakeJoy, The Drake Hotel, MOCA Toronto, Vogue Britain, Trend Hunter, Material District, Merrill House and Art Insider among others. She has exhibited work at Ontario Place, the Textile Museum of Canada, Fashion Art Toronto and others. Spare has also worked as a costume technician on productions such as It, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Discovery, and 13: The Musical! to name a few.
